Captains Golf Course Webcam
I'm a total sucker for a good webcam. This one, in particular, will be a constant reminder of how nice it can be to take an afternoon playing one of the many outstanding golf courses on the Cape. This one, 'the Captians' is in Brewster. It's actually 2 courses, the Port and the Starboard. What we see in this webcam, is the practice green in the foreground and (I believe) the 9th green and 10th tee of the Port course. We'll have to wait for the snow to melt to be sure. Click here to get the current view.

Cape's Blue Rock Is In Top 10 Par-3 Golf Courses - Worldwide!
The Blue Rock Golf Course in South Yarmouth was named one of Golf Magazine’s top 10 par-3 golf courses in its June 2011 issue. In the article, Golf Magazine’s Senior Editor Joe Passov explains “the greatest par-3 courses are every bit as scenic and thought-provoking as their bigger brothers . . . (and) whether you go 9 or 18, you've found some extra time in your day.”
Naming Blue Rock as #7 on this prestigious list, Passov describes the course as follows, “If you've got a golf itch to scratch on Cape Cod, tee it up at this woodsy, par-54, 1962 Geoffrey Cornish design. The 169-yard ninth remains the standout, with its healthy poke over water to a kidney-shaped green.” Blue Rock is in good company on the list with top courses from Bermuda,Las Vegas , California and even China .

Blue Rock is one of my favorate courses and I play it about a dozen times a season. Today we played the full 18 holes in under 4 hours. Beautifully landscaped, well groomed, and a lot of fun. Check out the Golf Magazine article...Here. Golf Magazine is a Sports Illustrated publication.

Golf Balls From Lobster Shells
What happens to all those lobster shells that remain after the lobsters are stripped of all their meat? At my house they just go in the garbage. But, I haven't thought about all the shells from the food companies that process lobster meat for lobster ravioli, lobster soup, lobster tails, etc. The problem is that the shells end up in landfills. I'm not sure that dissolvable golf balls are a good idea. I will always retrieve lost balls. Do I then need to worry if they will turn to mush with a good tee-shot?

Chequessett Golf - Wellfleet
The Chequessett Yacht & Country Club is a 'semi-private' club in Wellfleet that has a 9-hole golf course with spectacular views. I had my first outing this past Wednesday (the temperature was about 50 degrees) and I was reasonably happy with my performance. I shot this picture with my Blackberry from the fifth hole's green. You can see Wellfleet harbor in the distance.

Highland Links - Great Winter Golf Deal
When the snow finally leaves (it should be gone soon!), it'll be time to catch a bit of Winter golf at the oldest course on Cape Cod, the Highland Links in Truro. This 9-hole course is a true 'links' style course, not unlike the famous "Old Course" at St Andrews. Check out this video....

Early Golf History Made In Eastham - Cedar Bank Links
Early golf legends, Bobby Jones and Francis Ouimet, played golf at Eastham's Cedar Bank Links, a private course that was constructed in the mid 1920's and existed until just after World War II. The course dominated the landscape that today is occupied by the Cape Cod National Seashore's visitor's center and the land surrounding Salt Pond. In fact, the parking lot of the visitor's center sits where the nineth hole use to be. The 17th green was near where the boathouses stand today. An interesting history of the Cedar Bank Links can be found on the Golf on Cape Cod website.

Yesterday - Blue Rock Golf Course in Yarmouth.
After enduring the long lines at the polls yesterday (9 minutes, unbearable) a friend and I took the time to enjoy the warmer, sunshine-y, day with a round of golf. We played a par-3 course in Yarmouth called Blue Rock. A beautiful day with the leaves in bright colors, a gentle breeze and almost no one else on the course. My score wasn't the best - my pitches and chips did me in.
This course is quite beautiful and fun to play. There are water hazards on 4 holes (3, 9, 10, & 18) and relatively level greens. The price was pretty good too, only $25. Check them out on the web at http://www.bluerockgolfcourse.com/.

Chatham Seaside Links - Hmmmm!

I promised I'd report after I had a chance to play the 9 hole golf course that abuts the Chatham Bars Inn. I played it last week with my wife and a friend.
Well, I found it difficult. Several of the holes, including the 1st, were laid out such that you couldn't see the pin from the tee box due to a hill crest in the fairway. My game is inconsistent (I'm overstating my skill level here) without the 'help'. The other 'help' we had was the wind, which seemed to blow in my face on every hole (is that possible?). All that said, it was a good time, a great day, and the price was right, $19 (without cart).

Chatham Seaside Links
I 'discovered' a 'new' 9-hole golf course! This course is adjacent to the Chatham Bars Inn, just off of Shore Rd in Chatham. What is so amazing is that it's a public course with VERY reaonable greens fees - how about $19! In truth, the course has existed for many years (since 1895) and I'm not the first to discover it, but I plan to give it a play before it gets too cold. I'll let you know when I do. Check it out on Golf.com.
