Barrel-Roofed House Going Up in Wellfleet

One of my land-only clients from earlier this year is building a very interesting, very energy efficient home off Lieutenant Island Rd. The new home will have a unique barrel shaped roof, not unlike one you might see on many modern church structures.  Additionally, this home will be certified as an Energy Star home when its done. Cool!

Free Money For Energy Upgrades

The Federal government has a number of energy related rebates (mostly in the form of tax credits) that expire at the end of 2010. Likewise, many states has plans that are expiring soon.  Massachusetts had a special tax credit for energy efficient appliances, which unfortunately has expired.

Some eligible items for a federal tax credit include insulation, windows and doors, roofs, heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, water heaters and biomass stoves. Additionally, a tax credit is also available for some more advanced energy improvements, including solar panels and wind turbines.

There are lots of 'details, so start by reading the article on the Wall Street Journal's MarketWatch website.,, Here. One of the details is that the home must be your primary residence, not a rental home.

Mass Save - Energy Savings Website

The last few days have drawn attention of many to the Mass-Save website, where a program of rebates for energy efficient appliances was significantly over subscribed and under planned. That said, rebates aside, this is a good website to get a handle on Massachusetts sponsored energy programs for your home, your business, as well as for building professionals. For individuals, there was info on lighting & appliances, heating & cooling, as well as for building a new house or an addition. Check out the website...Here.
