2013 Eastham Windmill Weekend - September 6th-8th
Windmill Weekend is the year's biggest and best weekend in Eastham and is held the weekend after Labor Day. The town puts on a party with lots of events and it's always fun for the whole family. The 36th annual Windmill Weekend includes an art show, a craft show, a car show, sand 'art' at First Encounter Beach (my favorite), concerts, a clam chowder contest, square dancing, a parade, 5 mile and 2 mile runs, and much more.
Go to the Windmill Weekend website for a schedule and more information. This year's theme is "Fall for Eastham". Come - come join the fun!
Two items of special note. First - the sand art contest will be held late afternoon on Saturday to be at low tide, and second - the parade route on Sunday will start at Arnold's Restaurant and proceed to the Windmill Green. The parade starts at 1 PM. See you there!

Photo of the Day - Eastham Monday Night Concert
I had the chance to go up to Eastham's Windmill Green to see tonight's free concert at the band gazebo. The music was provided by the Brass Connection Quintet, a group of 5 (imagine a quintet NOT be 5?) brass players. They performed familiar tunes, many from the movies and TV. There must have been over 200 folks there. Lots of fun for all ages.

The Eastham Superette Is 60!
The Eastham Superette, across Samoset Rd from the Eastham Windmill and Windmill Green, is turning 60 years old. I live near the Superette and know that if we need something the Superette probably has it. They have all the important staples, like milk & bread, as well as some locally grown vegetables, deli sandwiches, and beer & wine. The picture (right) is a capture from a 1950's postcard.
To celebrate, the Superette is hosting a birthday party next Saturday, March 3rd, from 11 to 2. I love birthday cake! Join the (really) nice folks at the Superette.

Fallen Hero Remembered On Windmill Green
A Memorial Bench in honor of Sgt. Mark Vecchione was dedicated today on the Eastham Windmill Green. Mark was killed in Iraq in July of 2006. The bench was dedicated in his honor by his mother Cynthia Deslauries, his sister Laurie Vecchione and nephew Sabastian. The dedication was attended by about 40 hardy souls who braved the cold November afternoon. We are forever grateful for his service to our country and promise never to forget the ultimate sacrifice Mark and his family have made. The bench became a reality through the efforts of Dylan De Silva and Cape Cod Cares for the Troops.
