Photo of the Day - Freedom Tower - One Step Closer
The spire on top of the Freedom Tower, in lower Manhattan, looks to be nearing completion. This will make the Freedom Tower the tallest structure in the Western Hemisphere. The photo below was taken earlier today from New Jersey by my son John. You can see that the upper floors still need their outer 'skin' and that the spire is getting taller. In just over 11 years after 9-11 we have a wonderful symbol of American courage and determination.

Photo of the Day - Freedom Tower Update
I have a particular interest in the continued 'climb' of the Freedom Tower, known as One World Trade Center, in New York City. The building is starting to rise significantly above neighboring structures, as seen in the photo, below, taken this past Friday by my son, John, from the New Jersey side of the Hudson.

One World Trade Tower - An UP-date!
Here is a photo, taken this morning, of the new tower being built on the site of the World Trade Center. It's beginning to have it's exterior 'skin'. This photo was taken from my son's 26th floor apartment in Battery Park City. Click on the photo to increase it's size.

Photo of the Day: One World Trade Center
Below is a photo, taken this morning, of the Freedom Tower, a.k.a. One World Trade Center. We're starting to get really tall! My son's apartment overlooks Ground Zero, so he periodically takes a photo out his dining room window.

Freedom Tower - Now At Half-Way Point
The Freedom Tower, now called One World Trade Center, is at 52 floors, the half way point in its construction. Check out this photo out my son's dining room window, taken yesterday.

We Remember This Day
Nine years ago we watched as history changed course. Today, we remember that nearly 3000 Americans died that terrible day.
The Freedom Tower, now called One World Trade Center, is rising from the ground next to where the Twin Towers once stood. Below is a photo taken this morning from my son's apartment in Battery Park City.

Ground Zero Shipwreck Found
Does it get better than this? My fascination with 18th century shipwrecks and my interest in the construction at NYC's ground zero have come together in a recent discovery of a 30 foot section of wooden hull, presumably of a 1700's ship. The excavation has just begun, but one theory is that the ship was used as part of landfill when New York's Manhattan Island was extended southward.
Read about this discovery, and check out the photos, on the New York Times website.

NYC's Freedom Tower - An Updated Photo
It's only been a month since I was last at my son's apartment overlooking ground-zero in NYC. Here is today's photo. I (apparently) spend too much time driving to New York!

NYC's Freedom Tower - Current Photo
This weekend my wife & I visited our son, Matt, who lives in Battery Park City. His apartment overlooks the 'ground-zero' site and the construction of the Freedom Tower. I took the photo, below, from his window. It looks to me that the tower is about 30 stories tall at this point. Work continued through the weekend. Impressive!
